Philosophy
Homeschool Jniveristy seeks to bring each subject to life through life using elements of the Charlotte Mason philosophy. We follow a literature-based approach in most classes by offering "living books" as reading selections. These are books that warm the imagination and nurture thinking and learning. HSU carefully chooses reading that allow our students to experience the subject and/or timeframe which we are studying. As we immerse our students into our historical period, we make every effort to inspire life-long learners.
Homeschool University strives to focus on three basic components. Each student is encouraged to acquire knowledge, build understanding, and apply learning to life:
Atmosphere: As a continuation of the nurturing environment of home, HSU classes work to partner with parents by providing students an atmosphere conducive to exploration, creativity and stimulation, which works to produce life-long learners.
Discipline: HSU classes work to help shape the various disciplines in a student’s life. The disciplines of good character and habit building, along with the discipline of academic practice, matures a child as they develop.
Life: HSU classes bring learning to life through opportunities to express acquired knowledge and encourage the unique ideas and learning styles of each child. Classes incorporate a variety of multi-sensory modes, including hands-on opportunities and exploration, direct instruction and narration.
