Who We Are…
Home School University (HSU) emerged out of the
desire for Christian home schooling parents to
have opportunities for their children outside of their
homes which complement their home studies.
We are a Christ-centered, working co-op which
allows parents to pay teachers to direct their
children’s coursework in a variety of subjects,
while families volunteer their time as support staff.
Philosophy...
Home School University seeks to bring each
subject to life through a modified Classical
Approach with a Charlotte Mason influence.
Goals for Elementary...
These are the foundational years. We encourage
parents to focus on the rules of phonics, spelling,
grammar, poetry, vocabulary, foreign languages,
the stories of history and literature, descriptions of
plants and animals and the human body, the facts
of mathematics -- the list goes on. Classes that we
intentionally offer to help reach these goals - L.A.,
Writing, Span/Latin, History, Science, Math Fun,
Musical Theater and Choir.
Goals for 5th-8th...
This is when we should answer the "Whys". Your
child should be given attention to cause and effect,
to the relationships between different fields of
knowledge, and to the way facts fit together into a
logical framework. Classes that we intentionally
offer to help reach these goals -
Core (Writing, History, Lit), special attention to
Research, Logic, Core, Apologia Sciences, Math,
Speech Performance, Theater, Jr. Choir,
Apologetics and Math/Science Explorers.
Goals for High School...
At this point, the high school student should learn
to write and speak with force and originality. The
student of rhetoric applies the rules of logic.
Students should focus on expressing conclusions in
clear, forceful and elegant language. Students
should also begin to specialize in whatever branch
of knowledge attracts them. Classes that we
intentionally offer to help reach these goals -
Core - Focus on Advanced Writing Skills, Upper
History & Lit, Christian Worldview,
Rhetoric/Debate, Life Skills, Apologia Sciences,
Theater, Math and Sr. Choir.
